10.3 Future At present, courts in Cyprus have not formally inte- grated the use of AI. Nevertheless, it is expected that AI will evolve to play an assistive role in dispute resolu- tion, supporting legal professionals in case manage- ment while preserving the primacy of human judgment and the integrity of legal safeguards.
In addition, AI must not replace human judgment, as doing so would violate Article 6 of the European Con- vention on Human Rights, which guarantees the right to a fair trial. AI can therefore assist in analysis and decision support but cannot independently decide legal outcomes. Finally, lawyers and legal professionals using AI in dis- pute resolution remain bound by professional respon- sibility rules under the Cyprus Code of Conduct for Advocates. They must ensure that AI outputs are accurate, reliable and legally sound, maintain client confidentiality, and disclose any limitations or risks associated with AI-generated recommendations. Fail- ure to exercise due diligence could result in profes- sional negligence or ethical violations.
