Expansion of predictive analytics and AI For better or worse, AI has infiltrated virtually every facet of modern society, with governments, organi- sations and individuals jumping at the opportunity to explore how this technology can transform internal procedures and replace legacy systems. AI as a tool for the insurance sector In 2025, the adoption of predictive analytics and gen- erative AI continued to accelerate across the Asian insurance market, largely driven by insurers looking to implement AI at scale to improve operational effi- ciency and customer satisfaction, and to provide more accurate, real-time risk assessments. Held annually in Singapore, InsurTech Connect Asia is a key industry event that discusses the most influential growth trends in the Asian insurance market. Tellingly, at the 2025 edition, “AI & Data Utilisation” remained the top theme. Notably, the key takeaways included the following. • The integration of AI technology among insurers has moved from experimentation to deployment, with many insurers now operationalising AI models in their underwriting, pricing and claims sectors. • AI technology is replacing traditional underwriting processes in three main areas: (a) manual data gathering; (b) risk forecasting/evaluation (which involves the use of AI-driven tools to forecast risk selection based on input information such as claims his- tories, behavioural data and other factors); and (c) coverage design, where AI supports the devel- opment of personalised product structures for insureds. • Insurers that have integrated AI technology into their claims processing frameworks have reported a significant uplift in operational efficiency, with case studies showing reduced processing times (in some cases from hours to minutes), and large- scale claims volumes being managed with far greater accuracy and consistency. • AI tools are also increasingly being leveraged to enhance insurers’ processes to detect fraud, waste and abuse, with such tools having the capacity to identify irregular/suspicious claim patterns – with
An Introduction to the Insurance Market in Singapore Despite the challenging economic headwinds in 2025, Singapore has solidified its position as a key player in the global economy and an attractive hub for insur- ance and reinsurance globally. Singapore’s economic growth largely exceeded fore- casts for 2025, delivering an average 4.3% year-on- year expansion in the first three quarters – which was significantly higher than the initial projections of around 1.5–2.5%. While factors such as the Trump Administration’s protectionist tilt and rising geopoliti- cal tensions in key trade corridors were expected to dampen economic conditions, stronger than expected performance among trading partners (such as China and Vietnam), coupled with robust regional export activity and the US-driven AI boom, helped boost Singapore’s growth beyond expectations. These favourable results have created positive spill- overs for professional services industries operating within the region, including the insurance sector, which demonstrated notable resilience and growth in 2025. Early data from the Global Insurance Database indicates that the general insurance sector recorded a 6.7% growth in gross written premiums in 2025. The life insurance market performed even more strongly, with new premiums in Q3 alone growing by more than 15%. Against this backdrop, the following four themes are particularly relevant for insurers and insureds alike operating in or through Singapore in 2026: • the expansion of predictive analytics and AI, and the associated regulatory risks of adopting and relying thereupon; • the growing impact of climate change on physical risks and liability exposure in Singapore, together with a renewed regulatory focus on greenwashing; • emerging markets with low insurance density and penetration that are poised for growth; and • how a tighter economic and regulatory environ- ment, complemented by political uncertainty and trade frictions, stands to affect the wider insurance market in Singapore.
