Marc Freedman is counsel at Van Bael & Bellis. He has over a decade of experience advising clients on complex UK, EU and multi- jurisdictional merger control (including Phase II investigations and appeals),
law, focusing on merger control and advisory matters, including complex selective distribution and other distribution-related issues in e-commerce. He has defended companies and advised third parties in the context of antitrust investigations by the European Commission, the CMA (and its predecessor, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT)) and the national competition authorities of the EU. He also advises on national security/foreign direct investment and consumer protection matters.
FDI screening, antitrust investigations, abuse of dominance, market studies and market investigations. He has particular expertise regarding UK merger control, including a year-long secondment to the CMA’s mergers unit. In the digital space, in addition to his substantial merger control experience, Marc has also advised on numerous UK and EU antitrust investigations and sector inquiries concerning Big Tech companies – including, most recently, various CMA SMS designation investigations.
