Another major development is the introduction of the new 2025 BANI Rules and Procedures, which mod- ernise arbitration practice in Indonesia. These rules now provide for emergency arbitration procedures, enabling parties to obtain urgent interim relief even before a tribunal is fully constituted, with strict time- lines imposed on appointments and decisions. The updated framework also recognises the complex- ity of contemporary disputes by allowing multiparty

and multicontract arbitration, thereby facilitating the consolidation of interrelated claims within a single proceeding. Additionally, BANI has introduced a new requirement that any party represented by foreign counsel must also appoint Indonesian legal counsel, regardless of the governing law of the contract. This move reflects a policy to ensure local legal integration and consistency in proceedings, while still accommo- dating international participation.
