Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu is one of the foremost providers of international and com- mercial legal services based in Tokyo. The firm has over 598 lawyers, including over 52 experi- enced foreign lawyers from various jurisdictions (as of June 2024). Its overseas network includes offices in New York, Singapore, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Jakarta and Shanghai, and collaborative relationships with prominent
local law firms throughout Asia, Europe, North and South America and other regions. The firm regularly advises leading power utilities, trading companies and investors on their energy pro- jects, including all associated regulatory mat- ters, as well as financial institutions on financ- ing for these projects. The firm has dealt with a number of renewable power projects since the introduction of the feed-in tariff in Japan. Yutaro Fujimoto is a partner in the energy and infrastructure practice team of Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu. He regularly advises on power plant projects (conventional and renewable) and their project finance; start-ups and M&A of electricity retail businesses; wholesale transactions of electricity and gas pursuant to the market regulations; new business such as Corporate PPAs; and provides dispute resolution services in connection with energy businesses. From 2015 to 2017, he worked as the first deputy director at the secretariat office of the Electricity and Gas Market Surveillance Commission of Japan to support its launch and the full liberalisation of the electricity and gas retail markets.

Rintaro Hirano is a partner in the energy and infrastructure practice team of Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu. He advises utilities, developers, contractors and financial institutions on
energy projects, from conventional power plants to renewable energy plants, and has extensive knowledge and experience of project finance in the energy field. Since his secondment to JBIC, the Japanese development bank and export credit agency, from 2011 to 2013, he has advised Japanese clients on international energy and infrastructure projects.
