Treatment of Foreign Companies Basic equality The Sixth Constitutional Amendment of 1995 revoked Article 171 of the Brazilian Federal Con- stitution, which provided for preferential treat- ment for companies controlled by Brazilians over companies directly or indirectly controlled by foreigners. Since then, equal and non-dis- criminatory treatment of companies, whether controlled by Brazilians or foreigners, has been a constitutional principle.
