• Final decision – the local state services depart- ment decides whether to grant the authorisation. Projects that do not meet health and environmental standards are rejected. Approved authorisations remain subject to judicial review. Once in their operational phase, projects involving one or more ICPE are monitored and inspected by the state department responsible for environmental protection ( Direction régionale de l’environnement, de l’aménagement et du logement ). Additional require- ments may be imposed by the prefecture; financial penalties may apply in the event of a breach, and envi- ronmental authorisation may be revoked if a breach is significant.
