advocacy, the dispute resolution and litigation team guides clients through the full range of disputes, from multiparty, cross-jurisdictional corporate litigation to domestic claims before the local courts, all the way through to advoca- cy before the Privy Council. Many of the firm’s cases have established judicial precedents that are referred to in jurisdictions around the world. Carey Olsen advises on Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey law across a global network of nine internation- al offices.

Steven Balmer is an advocate and senior associate at Carey Olsen, specialising in commercial litigation, trust litigation and insolvency matters. He works on a range of high-
employment, data protection, competition law and intellectual property matters. Elaine is a past President of the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce and an associate member of the Channel Islands Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), and the Chancery Bar Association. She appears regularly in courts and tribunals at all levels in Guernsey and for several years acted as Adjunct Professor of Civil Litigation to the Guernsey Bar. She is also a Certified International Privacy Professional (CIPP/E).

Steven trained with a national firm in Scotland and, prior to that, spent two years working at the Judicial Institute of Scotland.
