A new Copyright Law issued under Royal Decree No M/169 of 14 Sha’ban 1447 Hejra, corresponding to 2 February 2026, will come into effect in August 2026, replacing the current Copyright Law. The 2026 Copyright Law will strengthen copyright enforcement mechanisms, modernise the law to account for the emergence of artificial intelligence, move towards a safe harbour regime for internet content providers, and raise penalties for copyright violations.
