Matthew Howell (partner) is a European Patent Litigator and UK and European Patent Attorney who leads the UPC team at HLK. He has direct experience of litigation before
Jamie Rowlands (partner) has over 20 years of experience advising on, protecting and enforcing clients’ IP, with a focus on patent litigation. In the UK, he has litigated in the IPEC,
the UPC, having acted in a complex, high- value case relating to a system for designing integrated circuits. He has written and presented extensively on the UPC, including at international IP conferences. Matthew specialises in the fields of electronics, computing (hardware and software) and communications, and has undertaken patent work on behalf of a variety of multinational companies operating in these fields, as well as SMEs, start-ups and major universities.
High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. He also regularly advises clients on UPC litigation strategies. He has a unique insight into IP litigation in China, having spent five years in-country enforcing IP rights in the Chinese courts. His litigation work covers a wide variety of sectors including consumer products, telecoms, software, medical devices, aviation, automotive, oil and gas and advanced manufacturing.
