The Interim Measures came into effect on 15 August 2023 and impose some obligations on the generative AI provider, such as labelling the generated content, establishing and improving a complaint and reporting mechanism and so on. In summary, the Chinese courts are handling an increasing number of copyright disputes related to generative AI and have made some positive interventions. However, these interventions are still taking place in lower-level courts and aca - demics have yet to reach a consensus. More dis - cussions from legislative, judicial departments and academia will be needed in the future.
